Just don’t forget about it and accidentally throw it in the dryer as well

I've been doing that trick for as long as I can remember, and fully agree. Doesn't make sense not doing it.

Just wipe the cup using the clothes you are about to wash. It saves water too.

This “tip” is part of the instructions printed on the packaging, along with “Add detergent first, then add clothes.”

LPT: use powdered detergent. Liquid detergent is a ripoff and is bad for your machine and clothing

Ooooorrrrrr throw the cap away on day 1 and just put the detergent in directly. It's not baking, the volumes can be off by a little and by the age of "first doing laundry + 5 years" you should have it dialed.

A lot of the newer washers, especially the ones without the center agitator do not start filling up with water until you close the lid. When you open the lid up again, the water stops. It kind of sucks.

I also wash the cup and use the soap when I do hand washing. Tennis shoes, muddy hiking shoes, or anything that requires hand washing.

Since we’re taking about laundry LPT’s- 2 tablespoons of laundry detergent should be enough for a regular load of clothes.

When I was down to the last half-load of detergent, I'd just throw the whole bottle in, although this means you'll have a half-full bottle of detergent when the load is done. I guess you could poke a hole in the bottom but I never felt the need.
