Tried it, didn’t seem to work on my laptop :(

Did Alt-Space bring up the upper-left context menu? What program did you try it in? This is for Windows only, FYI. Try it in Notepad.

Yeah the context menu just came up, in windows btw, I was using Edge. Works with some apps, just not others

It should work in Edge. Make sure you let go of all keys before pressing C.

Close window is not the same as Alt-F4 (quit)

How so? I know it can't affect full-screen games or things that don't bring up this context menu, but other than that, it seems to be identical.

Closing the window is like asking the program to close. Alt+F4 is demanding the program to close. Sometimes neither are good enough and using task manager forces it to close.
There is a program called super F4 or something that will basically force anything to close with Ctrl alt f4 similar to task manager.
So you have "please close now" vs "close right now" vs shooting the program
Forcing a program to close can cause issues if the program does not have time to save, or close naturally, (think a game not saving progress before closing, it a text editor not saving the text)

But the context menu literally says Alt-F4
is the keyboard shortcut for my method (you see it when you press Alt-Space
). In what specific scenario (barring a full-screen game or one in which a context menu is nowhere to be found) does Alt-Space, C
not close while Alt-F4
does?

If you don't want to close app completely but a single tab, use Ctrl+W combination.
