This is helpful ty! Though I'm sure in the case of a fire I'd scramble it up
If you don’t have a extinguisher, close the door on your way out to help contain the fire and reduce oxygen to feed the flames.
My old schools had multiple doors held open with magnets on a semi permanent basis, only closing when fires or if they get knocked shut by accident
I heard PASS but never RACE. I have however heard of tactics similar to RACE but never that acronym though. Ie the sign next to some fire alarms that say Sound alarm, close doors, leave building, call fire, do not re enter unless the fire dept says so, etc
I guarantee if you use “race pass” in a professional setting you’re going to be sent to HR.
There could be an active fire and the second you say “race pass” some woman with blue hair is going to scream at you and file a complaint.
Life’s a race and even if it isn’t ya have to pass your opponents
Uhhmmm can you elaborate? 🫣
If you have never used a fire extinguisher before you should practice actually using one. When there is an emergency it’s important not to hesitate.
Check with your local fire department or employer ( larger companies) I had to get fire extinguisher training every year for my job. Perhaps there’s a training course that you can attend. Ours consisted of a video about types of fires and extinguishers. Then we had hands on a cut down barrel with some lit diesel fuel Twist pin, easier then pulling aim at base of fire squeeze and sweep flame. https://youtu.be/ktrv34zW7-A
Completely agree, you might hurt someone otherwise or get the wrong fire.
Adding to OP: Fire extinguishers work by either cooling the source or shutting off the oxygen from the source. Meaning that aiming for the flames won't do anything as those flames will just keep coming as long as Material, Temperature and Oxygen are given.
If you have the powder one, stand in door opening enter as close as you can. But dont forget the door entrance position. Stay close if possible. Low position. Range 5 m in those.
Just empty that shit. Move backwards so you dont breath in gas and faint. It will be hard to see. Just stay low in the door opening and keep emptying. Even if you dont see anything. It will get everywhere that damn powder.
Also having the right fire extinguisher on hand for the likely fire that might happen. Imagine putting out a fire with an extinguisher made for paper and it is a grease fire.
TIL there are different kinds of fire extinguishers
You have four classes of fires:
Before anyone corrects me, this isn’t all inclusive, there are always exceptions and weird cases, but for the layperson these are what those classes of fires are.
Class A - generally anything that ashes, paper, wood, etc
Class B - chemicals and grease
Class C - electrical fires, like your circuit box
Class D - metal (you probably won’t see this far)
In America there’s a fifth class, Class K, which is kitchen fires. In general this is just a cute way of saying a Class B fire. Most home fire extinguishers are going to be rated for A, B/K, and C. This depends on the agent used to fight the fire.
Keep in mind, this advice applies when fighting a fire using water. you should aim above the fire and work down, the reason why is so that you minimize the chance of super heated steam coming back at you, water expands 12000x when it turns into vapour, and steam injuries burn you twice, once when the steam hits, and once when it cools into boiling water, it can also go through clothes.

This is literally printed on the fire extinguisher itself. Using a product as intended.
