Clarify with your boss, but I believe in many cases you can get holiday pay or use PTO on days you should have off to get some sweet, sweet overtime
Labour laws vary depending on your location and if you have a contract or other working agreement - you would first have to ask your HR department and confirm with local laws.
Ask for clarification but it sounds like they're asking if you'd rather get bonus PTO or get the Thanksgiving pay.
I've never ever seen someone get overtime for time they don't physically work
Your best effort here would be to speak directly with your manager.
I have. It's a union thing
Definitely ask your boss or HR, but I worked for a place that gave us holiday PTO to use for paid holidays. So we'd get Thanksgiving off but we had to put in 8 hours of PTO for it. Then, if we worked on Thanksgiving we would get paid for the hours we worked and we could choose to (a) also use that holiday PTO and get an extra big paycheck (but it would be 8 hrs of regular pay, not overtime or holiday pay), or (b) save the PTO for a vacation at a later time.
Dammmmnnnn
That's what I was thinking, too. I worked at a place that did that - you got double time for working a Holiday, and could also use your Holiday PTO for that day, or just bank it in with your regular PTO.
