No way! What country are you in?

Australia. Stuff is pro rata, at least where I worm atm. so you earn 2 hours of paid sick leave and annual leave every week. If you have no paid balance, you can do sick unpaid.

Blue collar in the states. We don't get them, and companies on average get 2 weeks vacation. Yep. Ten whole days. So if you wanna get paid while sick, good luck having time off for another year. White collars do get them.

As a teacher myself, it is so much extra work to write lesson plans and get everything prepped that it is actually much less stressful to just go in.

We always have to have planning and resources done the Tuesday before. Everything on an internal system and supply folders ready to go with children’s details. This ensures if we are sick there’s no prep for us to do everything is already ready to go. Our colleagues will either give the supply the resources and planning or point them to where they are on the system and where our supply folder is.

Many jobs offer paid sick days as a perk.

That’s unbelievable! Awful practice

Most of Australia lol (whoever is permanent, anyway).

I get 10 sick days a year on top of my 4 weeks holiday leave. All paid for.

How th am i meant to only be sick 10 days when everyone is (covid probably) coughing at work.

And they barely feel like they're given to me when I have to "prove" that I'm sick with a certificate.

The first 2 years of covid, my job gave us an extra 10 days "covid" leave. I only had to use it for 1 week and I didn't even have covid, I just had to isolate at home with my wife who had it. Still haven't got covid yet

I'm doing that right now. Got 200+ ETO hours.

Salaried office worker in the US… I get sick time but if I take a day then my work just gets plowed into the next day. Unless you’re out on long term leave, no one is doing your work in your absence.

I put off vacations (even with generous paid leave) to avoid the avalanche of work when I come back.

Sick days is such a weird concept. In the Netherlands most jobs don’t have them and when you’re sick you just get paid like any other day.

Meh. Fuck that.

If I have lingering minor illness, I’d just as soon spend the day working.

Save my sick days for nice days when I’m feeling good and want to play golf or something.
