You're not wrong. What I've attempted for the last few years, is learning to love the suffering. Mixed results, though more good than bad at this point.

The rules change, personally.

Things quit becoming about joy and meaning, and just become about survival.

Making it to the next day is the “win”.

As a side note, in case there's anyone reading this thinking that therapy is out of reach because of price/lack of health insurance, I highly encourage you to call local counseling centers and colleges to ask if they do sliding scale payments. They often allow you to set your own price. I was comfortable with $25 a session, but am aware I could have paid less.

This book is recommended reading by the ADHD reWired podcast, and I’ve owned it for a while but have never been able to finish it.

Maybe try reading it with a friend? Tbh, Atomic Habits was the first self-help book I've ever read. When I started it, I didn't believe I could finish it. Me and my friend, we used to read 2-3 chapters together and discuss it. Trust me, it works. You'll get to exchange ideas on how a certain trick mentioned in the book can be implemented in your life. I hope it helps you too :)

best part of the book for me was the idea to change the environment around you as you do things.

say you want to study 7 days a week. for each day you even do a little, put a figurine or some sort of cool token on your desk or window sill.

as you progress, it'll make your environment more enjoyable and it'll be a constant reminder of your progress.

It appealed to me very much. It does a great job of breaking down the underlying mechanisms of habits in a manner that is crystal plain and uncomplicated. There won't be any tricks or anything like that used. A fantastic book for laying the groundwork for personal development. After finishing the book, you will, if nothing else, have a comprehensive grasp of how habits are created and how they may be altered.

I agree for the most part. I remember psycho cybernetics was a good read as well. But, David goggins book destroyed every other one i ever read.

no hacks, no reframing, just pure effort for the sake of it. i was doing all kinds of shit until i got long covid. even still, i make the most of my up time because of that book.

Ah, I have yet to finish reading psycho-cybernetics, but it has been great so far. I never thought about the David Goggins book tbh. I need to add that to my read list. Since you liked both psycho and atomic, I am sure Goggins will come to help me personally if I read his book. Do you read lots of self-help books?

i have. i like reading about different takes on life. always liked the heat seeking missile concept from psycho cybernetics.

honestly, Goggins book sort of negates the others. perhaps it hit me specifically just the right way, but I think it's the best.

Since it negates the others, I am interested, now more than ever as to what and how he negates them. As of now, atomic habits has to be the #1 for keeping things real and sound.

as far as getting things done and motivation, it's awesome.

i suppose you could incorporate a few things from atomic, but he uses a mirror to keep track of things.

advocates seeking discomfort on purpose to make other things less of an obstacle.

I just really dislike what I'm doing. But I need to do it to survive. It's not that complicated. There's no way out imo. I'm probably gonna be spinning my wheels until I die
