Nothing can be attached permanently to passports which is why the paper clip works. When I recently travelled with my son I put a blue paper clip on his and nothing on mine. I always knew right off the bat which one was his. There was no fumbling with them at the gate or through customs.

Easier to just put their name on the outside

Two at the gate, one being an adult?

Two at customs, one being an adult?

Hand over both passports. It's that simple.

Why are people constantly trying to reinvent the wheel.

My passeport has a label with name and passeport number on the back cover...

As the passport holder when we travel, this is a good idea. My cross-body purse is safer than anybody's backpack, back pocket or shirt pocket as it has inner zipped compartments, and I always keep passports in there. Every time we needed to show them (to board a plane, to get on a ferry, to register at hotels, to enter certain museums and attractions - all stuff we did recently) I had to open them to see who they belonged to. Some places require everyone to show their own passports, regardless of age. A color coded post-it note would work as well.

This is one of the niche-est LPTs on here. And not worth me going to buy muti-color paper clips.
