That wouldn't eliminate earwax completely. It would still build up as you're using them.

Doesn't it just clear the holes but leave earwax residue on the surface that you'll just smear back into the holes? This just feels pointless and disgusting

Yeah see what would be awesome is if you could do like what I do with my Samsung earbuds. I can take the metal screen off and actually wipe off the earwax inside. Apple doesn't like people opening their stuff up though.
