Risk, reward, consequence… your reward is you get to your destination a few milliseconds quicker. The risk is unpredictable behaviour from the other party resulting in a crash. The consequence is a potentially hefty repair bill, injury; and being very late to your destination.
Don’t just assume. Always better to be absolutely sure before you make a manoeuvre, it’s just not worth the risk.

You’re completely missing my point. I’m not talking about reaching my destination faster. I’m talking about reaching my destination at all, which I can’t do because someone wants to let me though thinking that I’m just going to drive forward and not cross like three lanes to go left in under 100 feet.
And you can’t do a maneuver if you have a nice jackass who creates more traffic and blind spots, so what’s more dangerous then? Waiting until you have all the clearance you need to make that turn, or giving in to the nice jackass only to get hit on the left lane because you couldn’t see any incoming traffic.
