Just wanted to ask, girlfriend came over, said on the way here she was coughing a lot. Laying in bed now I notice she can’t stop coughing for more than a minute or so and her breathing is very heavy. We are both overweight but normally she only breaths heavily when we walk a lot. Just wanna make sure she isn’t like, going through anything serious :/

Go to the hospital! Breathing issues are a serious matter and should not be taken lightly.

We’ve been thinking about that, but it literally just started on her way here. She also apparently almost got rear ended by some guy so we were thinking maybe it’s a panic attack, she also has some other things going on in life that would give most people anxiety.
But she’s sleeping. People don’t have anxiety while sleeping.

She's got the covid
It could be anything from COVID to pneumonia and maybe a bronchitis inbetween. You need to go to the ER bud, and wear masks just in case. You have probably already been exposed if COVID, but try and save some innocents lol. She ever get vaccinated?
She’s awake though, she’s just laying in bed. But she sat up and she took some cough drops and things seem slightly better now
High blood pressure can cause shortness of breath
Does the coughing ease up if she sits up or stands up?
Is there MAYBE other symptoms for panic attack she's experiencing? I know they can differ from person to person but is there other things that she feels that could rule out Covid?
Last time I heard a story like this, person thought their pepper spray was their antibacterial spray...
If you’ve got a covid test handy, she should take it. That’ll at least eliminate one option.
If the coughing is still happening now, and she’s had some water to drink, you really do want to get her to ER though. Even stress can kill.
Remember even if you think the hospital is too much of a hassle you can always go to urgent care. Search “urgent care” on whatever map app you use.

Right off the bat I would say get her a cough suppressant/ NyQuil to help with symptoms
Obesity makes breathing harder ESPECIALLY when sick, so just because she’s having trouble doesn’t mean it’s life threatening. Still it sucks, and it’s hard to watch.
If she’s lying in bed make sure her head is elevated(helps with breathing) Continue to monitor breathing. If it gets very shallow and wheezy go to the doctor IMMEDIATELY.
If she has asthma and has an inhaler 100% use it. Will open the lungs up. Either way, make sure she remains calm and keeps breathing as deeply and as controlled as possible. Panic makes it much worse, so keep it light with her.
Really hope she feels better and you don’t get sick op.
Meh most of my obese friends have breathing difficulties when sick, not necessarily as bad as it seems/feels.
Plus going to the hospital is expensive. I think most people avoid it unless 100% needed

Possible she has covid but depending on where you live and given the time of year, it could be allergies.
She’s coughing nonstop and can’t breathe properly. That’s exactly the reason to go to the hospital.
From the top of my head because a similar thing occured in my family, probably a liver problem. But please, take an appointment with a doctor.

As I clearly said in a comment on here, if her breathing is rapid and shallow go to the hospital. If it’s just harder than usual, especially factoring in the obesity it’s not a life threatening issue. Just an annoying one.
If she gets the cough under control which is easy to do with otc products, her breathing will get easier. If it doesn’t then yes I agree go to the doctor.
Most people don’t have thousands to throw at the er because they are uncomfortable.
If you have pulse oximeter, a quick check using that would be a good idea.
Um...Covid? The respiratory virus we've BEEN dealing with? This should have been your first test.

Probably Covid, especially with sudden onset. With sudden, my thought is Cardiac like heart failure. Are her legs swelling? ER NOW, if her legs are extra swole or she's gained more than 5 pounds - AMBULANCE.
Have a blood pressure or pulse ox? If not, find an urgent care to get her looked over.

If she’s had asthma she should be taking abuderol and poss a steroid.
If she has chest pain she should go to hospital
If it’s shallow sharp breaths she should be heading to the hospital.
Lots of unknowns here , hopefully she feels better!

You are lucky you have never experienced it then
Go to minute clinic at cvs if you don’t want to go to the doctor- then they can prescribe her the syrup, pills, and inhaler to gather right at pharmacy along with testing her for Covid and flu
