I tried that for a bit but then my towel was all gross. And I didn't want to keep changing the towel nor do i have two hand towel rods in my rental.

Huh? If you rinse the brush first, like I said, how is your towel getting "gross"?

Why not use a couple of sheets of toilet paper and throw them in the loo? No need to flush. You've no excuse for your skanky toothbrush or skanky towel.
