Girlfriend broke up with you? Don't spend more than 5 minutes upset about it.

Hit by a car & hospitalised with both legs repairable but broken? Don't spend more than 5 minutes upset about it.

Dog bit by a snake & died? Don't spend more than 5 minutes upset about it.

Nah. Often broken bones will be stronger than they were before, if they are broken in a manner capable of healing properly, which is usually. Each of those things I mentioned has happened to a different family member of mine and they were fine in less than a year

The tip along this theme that I think has value is to consider how important something is by how long it's effects will be felt: 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year or 1 decade.

They are all very different - but some important stuff will still have an impact in the 1 year or less categories.

5 years is a long time and you shouldn't just dismiss stuff that will affect you for that long.
