It's an illusion, basically the core illusion of Facebook itself. Regardless of the region. Facebook is not essential for school, work and contact with family. Nowhere. It may be a convenient way to keep in touch. It is not essential.

uhhh I understand you but I don't agree. I don't have the numbers of any of my colleagues and most of the stuff/homework/news for uni is posted in the representative groups. It's posted nowhere else and I'd have no way to even ask anyone what's been posted because I don't know them personally, just through facebook chat. You're looking at the bigger picture and missing the details where individual experiences differ. Yeah maybe if we all stopped it would be awesome because it isn't essential in its base to any of us, but you can't convince anyone to just stop using it because you want to pull yourself away from it.

This. Something similar but in a different context: I deleted my fb and the result was I had to annoy individual people for info who would eventually reply with "just go look in the group". Now to them I'm the entitled asshole who asked for special favors. So now I'm back to fb, and some ppl are grumpy.

Yeah exactly what I'm saying. I deleted it once too and didn't realize until later how many people I lost contact with and couldn't find anywhere else, especially in my region where fb is the most used social media ever since it came out.
