I was wandering around The Hague and went down an alleyway where I saw a bunch of Japanese tourists lined up at a door. There was no sign but I figured it was a museum and followed them inside where it was confirmed that I was entering a museum. I poked around from room to room till I came upon a room that had a Vermeer on each wall. Fortunately there was a round seat in the center of the room so I could sit as I was about to pass out. It was wonderful!

I would highly recommend the documentary 'Tim's Vermeer's. It's one of my favorites, and I really learned a ton about art and technology watching it!

Whenever I see Stephen Fry's name I think it's going to be Phillip J Fry and then I'm disappointed when it's not.

If you have any interest in Vermeer, art, or optics, you must see Tim's Vermeer, a documentary about modern efforts to duplicate Vermeer's techniques.

Read the title as Closer to Jason Voorhees, narrated by Stephen Fry. Had me confused and excited.

If you’ve only seen photos of these great works and then completely by surprise you see the real thing up close. It’ll hit you pretty hard.

I had been in Amsterdam days prior and was awed by Van Gough and Rembrandt but I knew they were coming so I wasn’t bowled over like I was in The Hague.

That’s definitely the place, I’m terrible with pronouncing Dutch names so I couldn’t say it. I’m wondering if maybe there was a front entrance that was under repair or something because I entered from an alley and the entrance was below street level, I went down a ramp. And there wasn’t a sign that I noticed.

Thanks! Is there a way I can get a transcript? Would be great to read this instead of through headphones.

Edit: there are subtitles. Wish it were a bit faster though. :(

Same! I’m going at the end of March while Girl with a Pearl Earring is still up.

I’m still hoping the Met will change their mind and send their better two (Maid Asleep and Woman with a Water Pitcher). I’m immensely grateful I can go see them whenever I want but I’d love to see them alongside their sisters.

There's nothing like rounding a corner in a museum and coming face-to-face with a painting you've always loved and weren't expecting.

I had a revelatory hour with the Delaunays in the Pompidou once.

Yes, I am a massive museum nerd.

I am going to Amsterdam specifically for the Vermeer exhibit in May. He was the Dutch master painter.

I had the good fortune of being able to see a Vermeer in person last month; it, more than any other painting I’ve seen, was more impressive to me in person than from a book or photograph. There is a brilliance in the paint used that does not come across in photos.

If you have a chance to see one in person, please go for it!

The houses of government are currently under renovation, they just closed them off a few weeks ago. So it’s entirely possible the signage isn’t quite working right yet.
