Keep in mind this is just my own personal experience from seeing the occasional r/GetMotivated post on the front page, as well as my own experiences with depression, but a lot of posts I see are based on success stories. Which CAN be motivating, but to others can be more of an obstacle, like "Okay they did it but it's unrealistic and would never work for me"
I think the best example I can give is the scene from the beginning of Shrek, where he reads the happy ending to the fairy tale, and immediately follows it up with "Like that's ever gonna happen"
Things like 'dont stand still, always be productive, you can rest when you are dead' are more hurtful than motivating. Not everyone is in perfect health. Some people here need a simple 'be proud that you got out of bed today' and 'a year has passed without you practising a good habit' is demoralising for them.
in my opinion, many of the quotes are fairly condescending

Welcome to humans! :D
Because Reddit and about 100% of the internet is filled with bitter people who couldn’t and don’t want to make it in the real world so they make these websites their miserable playground.
Because who else would follow a subreddit about getting motivated if not miserable people who arent motived?
Because of self awareness I would say. People who are trying to get motivated realize that 90% of the ways most people think about motivation is actually unhelpful.
Sharing an image of a super rich person is "fun" because you get to imagine you're super rich. If you take it a step further and actually think about it you realize a particular set of circumstances that you don't have allowed them to be as rich as they are. But people will still share the pictures because they like to feel good about themselves thinking "that could be me" sure it's a positive emotion but it's really not that motivating.
Real motivation comes from discipline, faith in oneself, and understanding that while you may not end up where you intend, you'll end up somewhere better by getting up and trying consistently than just letting things sit.

Ur stupid is why
Most of us have problems we can't just "turn off" like a light switch and so it becomes really painful to see "motivational" post preach and act like it is so simple to achieve great things. We painfully know there are things we will never obtain.

A lot of times "motivational" advice is toxic positivity & is anything but motivational or helpful. It's generally an oversimplification of complex and unrealistic advice that is used as a crutch vs seeking qualified mental and/or medical health advice from a professional.

There’s too many people posting their life coach or personal trainer “businesses”. It’s embarrassing.
The whole posting a quote as an advertisement for your business is ridiculously overdone
