I think covid shutdown illustrated this for a lot of people like myself.

It is rich guy shit. I’m in my moving slow, looking inward phase only because I can afford to. My basic needs and more are met. Now I have the time to try and grow.

This is why it is important that societies basic needs are met. Once those are met we can focus on the rest of it.

Which is why those in power keep us tired, hungry, poor, jailed etc. So we can’t/don’t wake up and fight back.

Too bad everyone needs to be constantly distracted.

If everyone wasn't constantly distracted, they might notice what's going on. Like the lack of quality/single-payer healthcare in America. Then people might decide to demand better laws, so that the Zuckers of the world aren't spying on our every move like creepy corporate weirdos, checking out our data from every angle.

But it's way easier to just go back on social media than to do the hard stuff.

Bread and Circuses. We're literally playing through iterative archetypes that are thousands of years old. They just get more complex over time.

Mine had suicide-prevention Mondays that we'd get off and homework/projects couldn't be assigned. It was every couple months though so it wasn't doing all that much, still had one of the highest suicide rates.

That’s horseshit. Tell that to the interviewer asking how come there’s a gap in the résumé.

This is rich guy talk. Completely disconnected with reality.

Front end developer here. I have a dozen gaps of more than a month, some are a year. It’s made no difference in my getting hired. The one time they asked I said I took time off to rest.

I think it’s funny that the one post on here i see people get behind and not immediately go “yeeeeah BUT” is also a post that gives you an excuse to do nothing.

Burnt out millenials with debt still living with their parents being told they arent grinding hard enough from people who inherited generational wealth? Yeah i get that.

Pseudoburbia t1_j3xqle7 wrote

I’m guessing that’s commentary on me?

I’m a millennial and I inherited no generational wealth, or wealth of any kind. I grew up in a trailer and dropped out of high school, then skipped college. Then i fucked around for 5 years doing nothing. Then I found a job i liked, poured myself into it, and started my own company. It wasn’t given to me, I constantly struggle with motivation. You know what doesn’t, and never would have, motivated me? Quotes like this. The only thing I ever needed to be told was get off my ass and make something happen; but the average r/getmotivated user would describe that sentiment as…. well just look at the typical comments on any given post here.

Most people are just fucking lazy and make bad decisions. Then blame it on capitalism, boomers, etc etc.
