Unconscious incompetence, conscious incompetence, conscious competence, unconscious competence.....these are the steps.

Despair happens before the first steps are even taken.

It's what comes after the despair, that counts.

Something comes after the despair? It seems neverending

Do you have goals? Past trauma? A therapist?

k4b0odls t1_jczlriw wrote

My only long term goal is to self terminate after burying my parents. My therapist didn't bother to schedule another session because it was clear it wasn't working.

CapObviousHereToHelp t1_jczreyn wrote

Well its a goal.. not the best, but still.. be proud

Edit: And also, I hope you didnt mean terminate your parents

Anti-Queen_Elle t1_jczxp5m wrote

It sounds like you've already given up.

k4b0odls t1_jczya0p wrote

Getting there. At this point I think I'm waiting for everyone else to give up on me, so I can give up myself with less guilt.

Anti-Queen_Elle t1_jczyuj4 wrote

I don't think purpose is something that another can give you, it's something you yourself need to find.

I wish you the best of luck on your journey. Hopefully I've at least given you something to think about. It does get better, but to an extent, a lot of that falls on you to get help, find motivation, etc.

Doing something because you enjoy doing it frees you from being judged for or giving a shit about how "good" you do it.

Remembering this quote has helped me so many times. It is a great quote because it gives you motivation while tempering your expectations to something realistic.

towards being

SORTA GOOD

at something

Thank you. But can you also do sign language.

Is cursive really that much of a dying form of writing that people can't read it now?

6

PhoenyxStar t1_jcx7ha2 wrote

Doesn't surprise me. Millennials might be the last generation it even sort of mattered for.

I remember its importance being hammered in all throughout... 5th grade?, then I never used it again, except to sign my name.

Before that, I recall just referring to it as "some kind of elvish" and throwing my hands dramatically in the air, because it really did just look like the decorative border on the Sunday announcement flyer to me.

I though everything written by hand is cursive? How could you finish school without it.

yellowbrownstone t1_jcxz46g wrote

I’m 40 and read/write cursive easily but i have ADHD that font is hard on the eyes regardless.

The rest of the steps are, of course, trivial and left as an exercise for the reader… (/s)

This is so true. If you don't fail at first, you will never learn to be good at it.

Love adventure time, as a fan of animation and storyteller and in general. I have a screenshot of that quote printed and hang on a board above my desk. I can not get a lot of philosophy of trying and whatnot. But this, this I can get behind :v

So I started disc golfing recently and my first time was with my two close friends and some of their friends who are into the sport.

Everyone proceeded to throw these discs so cleanly and seemingly with no effort. Meanwhile, I step up to the plate and i threw decently, but it always veered to the left or right and didn’t get NEARLY as far as the other ppl. And everyone was of course watching me when I did it.

I got some encouragement my first couple times. And it was certainly intimidating to play in front of ppl who are I would consider good, but I just kept reminding myself that all these ppl started where I’m at. It was slightly embarrassing to throw a few times and I couldn’t help but feel judged lol

Anyways, I’m still very mediocre at disc golf. And I’ve only been to 3 courses. But it’s gotten slightly easier each time I do it.

Probably should have chucked a comma in there because right now it reads like you're encouraging performing oral sex on males in order to get better at things
