Instead of "the economy" think "having food to eat," "not facing mass civil unrest," etc. The economy is more than corporate profits.

At the end of the day, those with their hands on the actual levers of change profit far too well from the system to want to change it. They have no motivation to do so, and a lot of motivation to not.

At least in the US, God=Money=God. We have created a capitalistic hellescape where the .01% reap virtual all the benefits and the rest of us fight an ever shrinking pie.
