"If the human brain were so simple that we could understand it, we would be so simple that we couldn't."

In relation to "mind reading". If we simplified what happens in the human mind into something we can "read"—then we'd have dumbed it down so much that we would be "reading" inaccurate oversimplified data. "Mind reading" will never exist.

It already does and a BCI can decode thought into speech and it can also draw the images you picture in your mind onto a screen but only in black and white. There’s headsets and implants that already work. Accurately both in image and speech….

Full on mind reading technology will soon be as normal as a smartphone. Which will be great because it'll allow for a society where crime becomes next to impossible.

People fear this will be abused by those in power, but they forgot that in modern society lying is their single greatest power. 99% of people are not part of the lies, and only comply because they have little other choice, but if the lies at the top are exposed, that masses will no longer go along with it.

Which is why the elites fear technological progress more than anyone else. It's why in the past many powerful groups (such as kings and religions) rejected progress, because they understood it threatened their power.

Information is power, if the elites were forced to share it with the public, then the 99% would be able to dominate the information market. Or if only one person out of 100 people has a gun, then that 1 person has a lot of control over the other 99. But if everyone had a gun, then everyone would truly have an equal amount of power, and then you get true democracy.

And it's for this reason that as we are on the cusp of the Singularity (and beyond it already, but few think beyond what they can see), the risk to the 99% becomes catastrophic, as the 1% will do anything it can to maintain their grip on power.

This already exists as Remote Neural Monitoring and has longer than most of you have been born.

You've never had privacy.

There's a movie trope to explain why this is a poor idea.

Scanners, Thought Crimes, What Women Want, Chaos Walking, Doctor Sleep, The Outsiders, X-Men... any movie/show/book that gives someone the gift of reading thought ends badly for said empowered being and everyone else involved. What do they think will happen when humanity realizes we're all just assholes on the inside? The brain-to-mouth filter is paramount for a working society.

The brain is a binary computing system of synaptic relays and electrical neuronal impulses, it is very simply to decode speech in the temporal lobe part of the brain which is responsible for thought and hearing to convert those thoughts into readable speech… via BCI… it already works
