This is great news. Both the US and the EU risk becoming dependent on China for the technologies of the next century. The inflation Reduction Act and recent Biden executive actions aim to renew the US solar industry. It's great to see the EU also responding. I would love to also see cooperation between the two.

Pretty interesting to see what is possible if conservatives are not in power.

They cut subsidies for the solar industry but the subsidies for the coal industry are still inplace. And now they are realising that a depenfency on china for all our electronics may be a problem.

It's FDP, like the abbreviation for file de Pute in French. So that's easy to remember.

I never understood Germany giving up on leading the solar panel industry. It doesn’t seem very logical to do so considering longterm benefits of renewable energy.

Conservative/light libertarian government wanted to ease the burden to the consumer, so they slashed subsidies and allowed China dumping prices instead of going to the EU to introduce tariffs. It all happened during a maturation stage of the technology where it would have been necessary to slowly lower subsidies so producers scale up production

I agree, however, it’s a matter of effective usage of taxes and balanced financial burdens, as well as longterm planning to invest in their own economy. If there was a big enough interest to invest in futureproof key technology, there would have been a possibility. I feel like it may have been a partisan maneuver.
