We call them azaleas in Louisiana. Pretty
Bosswashington t1_j9mu58h wrote
They are called rhododendrons in Louisiana. Azaleas can be the same color purple, but the leaves are much smaller, and closer together.

Most of California is getting a snowstorm this week, including Redwood NP, so idk what OP is talking about.
StuartScottsLeftEye t1_j9nf05b wrote
Those aren't redwoods. Redwood bark is red and very soft, with sinewy/threadlike texture on the outside - not this chunky brown scaly looking bark. Also they are more tapered with a wider base, and typically don't have the moss hanging from low branches (or have low branches) like this photo.
There are a number of forests that look like this photo in northern California, and they're beautiful, but those aren't redwoods.
Source: grew up with redwoods on my property, googled to double check I wasn't misremembering.

My first thought too. Based on the branches in the background, they look to be Western Hemlocks (Tsuga heterophylla). Looks more like Western WA than Northern CA.

People shit on the weather there but honestly with a nice winter, spring, and fall you get a lot of pleasant days. Especially a ways away from the gulf to cut down on the humidity a bit. On the other hand where I live in Canada almost the entire winter, and half the spring and fall are unpleasant and the summer is very humid anyway, so you guys donβt have it that bad.

Azaleas are a different plant. They are related though.
