I agree. Playa Hermosa and Tamarindo. Just need to get to the east coast sometime.

Question: I traveled through SE Asia expecting beautiful beaches. I ended up being quite surprised at the amount of plastic in the water and on the beach. If you are sticking the the tourist trail in Costa Rica, are you still going to find a similar level of plastic on the beaches? Or is this the place to go for clean waters/beaches?

Until you realize they're crawling with the worlds deadliest snakes. Saw 2 Fer-de-lance's last time I was in that area just sunning on rocks.

Such an amazing place! I was lucky enough to go to Coco for work a few years ago and would love to explore the rest of the country!

The beach in this picture, Manuel Antonio, is one of the most "touristy" beaches in CR and I visited during peak season and it looked just as beautiful in person. It's not perfect by no means but the beaches are as advertised.

Unfortunately, SE Asia and In particular Indonesia beaches have a truly shocking amount of litter.

Seriously though this looks incredibly beautiful! Lucky you got to experience it!

I'm picturing that one bastille song being played as a camera in an airplane records a video of flying over the island

We rented a villa near here with 12 other friends.

We spent a day on that beach you see. We were in our 30’s and 20’s and we literally played like kids. I’m here was nothing else to do so we just played in waves and lay on sand for a day. I’m 50 now and have 4 kids and a responsible job. It is still my most carefree memory.

I believe that's the 'island' that I hiked on back in 2013. Is it called catedral or something close to that?

I wanted to do some geocaching on that trip and there were 2 hides in the park at the time. One at an overlook to the east of this spot and one here, both off trail, which we were warned not to do, but I had hiking poles and used them to scare off any poisonous critters. It was a long, hot hike and I didn't bring enough water, only 2 water bottles worth. I believe that I had heatstroke by the time I got back to the hotel. Fun times.

I loved Costa Rica so much that I'm considering retiring there. Super nice people. Pura vida!

Costa Rican beaches aren't polluted and soiled by dirty fucking humans, hence their abundant "next level" status. Plop some people on those beaches and see how they look in a few months.

An Expat living in Costa Rica full-time for 11 years and I live only 45 minutes from Manuel Antonio. We are at the peak of the tourist season so there’s a ridiculous amount of people there. There are many other great beaches north, and south of Manuel Antonio. I would never recommend Tamarindo unless you are young and want to party. Also, Playa Hermosa? Which one? On the Pacific coast alone there are four playa hermosas.

One of the locals who was hanging out with our group told me it was a crackhead who sold them to some other tourists for $10 the next morning. Dunno who would want to buy some funky 7 year-old Rainbows, but oh well...

In this specific national park (and in others as well) they restrict the items you can bring in, to avoid littering and interfering with wildlife. It's also well maintained/cleaned by the authorities. So yeah it's pretty clean!

Mrs_Doutbfire t1_j5lu4vk wrote

The national park requires advances reservations so it DOESN'T get packed. There's wildlife all over, such as monkeys, raccoons and sloths, countless birds, macaws, etc. Having too many people disrupts the natural habitat.

Mrs_Doutbfire t1_j5lue2l wrote

I assume it was probably on a public beach outside the park, since there's no junkies inside the park, unless they actually make a reservation and pay the entrance fee, just to go steal some tourist's sandals. LOL.
