For anyone confused: Same name, different river.

Etymology is probably not the same however, as the Ontario Mississippi is a relatively small tributary of the Ottawa River, so the meaning is likely not the same “great water” as the other Mississippi.

There is an unsubstantiated theory that the name is derived from an indigenous word meaning “painted river”, referring to pictographs by Mazinaw Lake.

Nice. Growing up all us delinquent American kids would go visit Windsor Ontario to take advantage of the lower drinking age. Never made it up to London though.
