There is an unsubstantiated theory that the name is derived from an indigenous word meaning “painted river”, referring to pictographs by Mazinaw Lake.

Ok thanks. I was telling myself that the Mississippi does not run all the way into Canada 🤣

This is definitely from the bridge heading into Carelton Place as I don't see the single shack on the other bank.
Beauty pic.

It sure is. I love how the landscape looks after a fresh snow. So quiet and serene.

I love the way the snow sticks to the branches in higher temperatures. Warms my soul.

Just next to the Higheay 7 bridge!
Grew up in CP and recognized the spot as soon as I saw it. Beauty pic.

The only reason someone would downvote this is because they're not excited to be paying for heating.

Nice. Growing up all us delinquent American kids would go visit Windsor Ontario to take advantage of the lower drinking age. Never made it up to London though.

People on Reddit are the only people who don't know how to do anything for themselves. It's like reddit is the only site they can access. I see people asking for help with how to fix something. Watch YouTube. It's there.

For anyone confused: Same name, different river.
Etymology is probably not the same however, as the Ontario Mississippi is a relatively small tributary of the Ottawa River, so the meaning is likely not the same “great water” as the other Mississippi.
