I love that everyone thinks you said Dinosaur, New Mexico, instead of National Monumemt.

I was one of the ones fooled💀 "I was born and raised in New Mexico, why haven't I heard of this place!?"

To be fair we have a town called "Pie Town" and one called "Truth or Consequences" so the weird name didn't feel too unbelievable.

Sldimond t1_itrffvd wrote

This! And now I’m like “damn, why isn’t this in NM.”

Same. Pie Town, T or C, Dulce, Radiator Spring, I'm done with all these names NM cities have.

I’ve been to this very spot, so I knew it wasn’t New Mexico, but still was thinking New Mexico , and came to the comments to see if anyone had noticed lol

I have to google, I grew up in NM and have never heard of this location. It's stunning!

Edit: It's in Utah

Bro.... NM = National Monument, they didn't say " Dinosaur, NM"

But he did say he was from New Mexico. Our education isn’t the best. Source am a New Mexican.

We're right down there with Alabama and Louisiana when it comes to eductation. And gun violence. And poverty. But the food is good.

To be fair, I see New Mexico abbreviated NM much more than I see "National Monument" abbreviated NM -- and as an editor, I can confirm that people rarely use commas correctly.

Amazing place Utah to Colorado throughout the Monument. Spent a week there and everywhere is fantastic. Thanks for sharing!

This is a picture taken facing West at the viewpoint of Harpers Corner Trail in Dinosaur National Monument. Dinosaur National Monument is located in Utah and Colorado, this picture is from the Colorado side. I apologize for the confusion of abbreviating it to NM. I’m on a big road trip focused on seeing a lot of public lands so I abbreviate national park, national monument and national recreation area in my journal notes so often I automatically did it here. Thanks to those who helped figure it out before I got back in time to reply!

This was great, much appreciated. I also thought it was New Mexico haha. And I’ve been around the state a bit so it felt very unfamiliar to me and surprising.

If anything, it is better to be vague. Virality has already destroyed enough natural wonders.

I spent a few days boondocking there this summer. Truly epic landscape. 10/10

Dinosaur National Monument is severely underrated. It has all the grandeur, size, and beauty of a National Park. I’m glad it’s not though cuz it keeps the tourists away.

3

redheadriveter OP t1_itqrbl2 wrote

Agreed! It has been one of my favorite places I’ve gone on my road trip. I knew nothing about it before I got there so it’s geological diversity and beauty caught me by surprise.

I visited as a tourist a few years ago. Blown away by the views and had the trail all to myself. The dino wall was an impressive site too.

The place is the title, Dinosaur National Monument. (Colorado/Utah border)

3

swimbikerun91 t1_itosar1 wrote

So not NM at all. NM = National monument is way less common than New Mexico. Did not get the acronym on the first try

4

TheMastaBlaster t1_itouhv0 wrote

I live in New Mexico and got it right away, being no comma before NM.
