NY is full of gorges like this. You just have to look.

The whole length of I-87 from the Canadian border to the south of New York is loaded with gorgeous places like this. My parents live on Schroon Lake, in the mountains, and it's just absolutely beautiful in the summer and fall!

Yup we live near the Finger Lakes and try to hit at least a couple of these places every summer or fall: Watkins Glenn, Taughanock Falls, Buttermilk Falls, Robert Treman, Stonybrook, & Letchworth. Our kids especially love walking up the gorge trail at Taughannock in the summer.

That's awesome! I'll write these down and check em out when we drive around. Thanks!

Finger Lakes also. I was taking my kid to a soccer game and someone had a 100 ft water fall, in their back yard near Watkins Glen...

Taughannock falls on Cayuga lake is the highest single drop waterfall on the east coast. Easy in and out to see too.

Holy...! That's impressive. Of course, as a race fan, there's also the famous racetrack there, too.

Ausable Chasm is a great little side trip on the way to F1 in Montreal.

I live in Canada, east of Mtl, so not on my way. But I do pass it often on my to Schroon Lake.

And F1 in Mtl is awesome! Been twice and loved it.

It is totally worth the side trip. If you can spare the time, do a tour down into the chasm. Otherwise, if you are traveling through in spring during the winter melt, it is rather impressive just to view from the bridge. There are campsites there too with cabins.

I think I have been to F1 in MTL about 6 times, it is really fun. Hoping to do a European race next year.

Oooh that would be sweet. My friend is going to the Spa race this year and I am greeeeeen with envy! Thanks for the tip on campsites. Will definitely check those out.

You can actually take your car on there and do a few laps with a truck in front making sure you go a certain speed. After doing this, it gave me a new appreciation for race cr drivers.

Ayyy Schroon Lake! Always make a point to stop in that gorgeous town whenever we go up north and get some lunch at Pitkins!

I’ve taken a tube down that! There is an illusion with the striated gorge walls where it feels like the river is running up hill.

I spent a few summers in upstate New York as a kid doing music camp. Some of my favorite times ever. Fast forward 30 years later I took my parents up there and they loved it. Stopped by Ausable, Mt Washington, and stayed at the Lake Placid Lodge which was a dream. I’d love to spend a few months in the summer camping up there and Vermont one year.

Truly a beautiful place. You can walk down in good weather, or just check it out from the bridge on the top.

Also, there is a fantastic brewery / biergarten right near there, Ausable Brewing Company, which is a nice way to relax after a hike.

Me and my grandma went on a boat ride there in 1981. It was really cool. I have no photos. My sister skated in lake placid every summer. That’s all I got

Just stopped there a few months ago on a road trip to VT. We were the only people there. It was pretty cool but all the bridges were behind a(n additional) paywall.

I miss old Burghy Bird though. The new Burghy is one of those boring generic “fiercer” logos. I miss the big damn goofy bird! Alas.
