That’s a spruce bog. Beavers basically killed a lake and now it’s poison. “The two main features of a bog are the lack of oxygen in the water and the fact that the water is very acidic. There are only a few different kinds of plants that can grow under these conditions. Most of these are the shrubs called Leatherleaf and the green sphagnum moss that grows under the Leatherleaf.”

Interesting, thanks for the info! I have a couple shots of big beaver dams in the middle of areas like this
