Nope. At one point there 8 drones flying.

Do you have to use heat shielding on the drones to keep them from burning up?

No, just don't fly them too low (because they will and do melt, and no heat shielding is available that I'm aware of that works for drones!). Quite a few people did melt or lose drones with this volcano
