Better off not putting in an s trap at all. Look up air admittance valve and follow directions for doing it right.

You very much do not want an s trap. They act as siphons, sucking the water that is supposed to act as a seal for sewer gasses etc down the pipes.

Thank you both. I’m going to Home Depot to get the air admittance valve and going to install that with a p trap. Much appreciated!

I’m in the same situation. My expert recommended checking local code as AAV are not universally accepted. (Just fyi.)

S traps are specifically prohibited by international plumbing code so you are no worse off code wise and much better off real world wise with a P trap and AAV.
