Is there anything holding it up from the bottom rear?

Photos of above not clear enough for me to tell, but are there any circular wood grains that would indicate the bolts may have been countersunk and then had wood putty put over them?

The bracket is on the back wall to hold the weight. There should definitely be bolts in the cabinet above. My only terrible thought is they didn't have the bolts or realize to drill holes so they caulked or glued it in there. Hope not.

Just start with exposed screws. It's going to be attached from a bracket behind it. Should also be some anchor bolts from up top as well. Good luck

yes I'm sure that there's a bracket attaching it to the wall behind. the piece that I'm missing is that it must be also attached above or from the sides in order to keep the front side up

Can you slip a really thin something between the case and the upper cabinet? Might at least help you verify there are bolts going vertical

I believe that gold fitting is the pressed in receiver for one of the thru-cabinet bolts that would come in from above. Take a paperclip and unbend it and insert from the bottom there and see if it inserts through until it hits the cabinet.

Also, whats the model number on that particular microwave, search for the install manual online and see what other mount options might exist.

The microwave oven might just be wedged enough in there that it stayed up and the installer didn’t feel the need to add the bolts from above.

I would take the door off the oven and try pulling down. The oven will stay on the back wall bracket until it is lifted off. If that doesn’t work, continue to take apart the oven as much as you can.

There is probably a bracket that it is sitting in on the back. Usually a long bracket with a channel the microwave sits on the bottom. Try lifting the microwave up and out at the same time. If it is wedged in you probably have to pull it out harder than you normally would

Weird. 25 years in construction and I have never seen this.

The nukeulator can be suspended entirely by it's bracket, but it would almost certainly sag. The only theory I have is the cabinets were replaced after the microwave was installed, but that makes even less sense.

I went through this pain over the summer. It turned out that the genius who owned my house before me had enclosed the top of the microwave after he'd bolted it in place from above. I ended up having to cut a hole in the false front of the cabinetry above to get to them to swap it out.
