Hello,

So the fan stopped working randomly one morning when I turned the timer switch. I guess the fan is up there behind the light somewhere? I got on a ladder with a flashlight but I can’t really see it and I have no idea how you’d get in there to change it.

What I’ve tried:

  1. Resetting all the breakers, test/reset gfci
  2. Opened up the switch box (pictured) and use the tester thing to touch both wires. It lit up when the timer is off and doesn’t light up when I start the timer. I did the same thing to the other 2 switches and got same result. Light up when switches are off, no light when on so seems like wiring is ok, right? So does that confirm the timer switch is working? Is there anything else I can try or is it for sure the fan that is broken?

Remove bulb. Gently pull down that housing since it'll be clipped on the ceiling drywall. Then you should be able to access the fan to see what is up. Probably a bad motor.

Thanks. Any way I can “see what’s up” by looking at it?

To access/replace the fan you need to climb in the attic.

There is no attic. It’s a rowhouse and there’s another floor above this one.
