There is growing discoloration on my ceiling that I believe may be due to a PEX waterline leak in my attic. To inspect, I need to pull up some of the OSB subfloor installed in the attic during the original build. The OSB sheet seems to be supporting a roof strut, which is bracing the roof. That's some scary shit! I've never seen that in my life. It's hard to imagine that piece of framing is really supporting anything with three nails in the OSB! Having said that I would do two things: 1. Use a circular saw to cut out enough of the OSB to observe the Pex and make any repairs 2. Call an engineer/contractor/building inspector to look at that abomination and tell you if it's actually supporting anything.

This looks like some idiot removed structure to get clearance for ductwork and when he realized that things were about to fall on his punkin' haid rigged something to keep it from happening long enough for him to get paid and skip town. You really need to get somebody who knows what they're doing to eyeball the situation and tell youu what needs to be done in the way of a permanent fix.

I’m just going to pull it out. That is definitely not something that is per the blueprints for that house. Somebody just added that later.
Then fix your leak and look at the roof and try to figure out why that is there and if your roof needs support then redo a more correct way

Step back from that mess. You need a good framing carpenter to properly replace all that is missing. Don’t let your home insurer know.
