We have built a lightweight timber extension and can't put traditional roof tiles on it...disaster! The building is timber framed sat on top of a dwarf wall (replaced conservatory . I need to put lightweight tiles on the roof but they are way more expensive than traditional roof tiles. Are there any gotchas or anything I should avoid or any advice on how to keep cost down on these tiles? What's my best option? Aluminium tile sheets? Ideally I want it to look close to the original roof. I've done some research but have no idea what lasts or looks good.

I am in the UK and the style to match is Mendip tiles

Can you still beef up the structure or is it too late? I would look into a metal roof that closely matches your existing tiles

Brava has synthetic tiles that look great (Not all shiny and cheap looking like some ive seen) and weigh about the same as asphalt shingles.

Don’t know the look you are trying to match, but sometimes it’s better to go with a completely different color or style rather than one that is close but not close enough.

Maybe not the right answer for you, but at least worth considering.
