I agree with this. Clear the pipe, have your drywall die into the sides of your duct work.

One of these options is your best bet. While you're up there on a ladder redo that tape on what I'm assuming is some kind of access hole cut in to the vent, or if you're really feeling fancy install a small access door instead.

Ah by strapping I meant furling strips, do you think the drywall would look okay butted up against the vent?

Ya the tape job done before was rough I think that'll be an easy fix that will look good.

I think it would look fine. Add a clean up strip, maybe a little cove, maybe a j-bead on the edge or your drywall, a caulk bead. Whatever floats your boat.

Just slid it under the vent half way, and just leave the pipe exposed (or hire someone to move it).

Agree- wide soffit can make a space seem bigger than a single dropped chase with two jogs, but it depends on the room; it’s certainly the classiest choice if they have the headroom.

I agree it would look the best sadly it's a fairly low ceiling and lowering that much more would make the room look much smaller
