Adding blue or white might do that, especially if the other LEDs are red yellow and green

The D in LED stands for diode, which is a directional shunt. Try reversing the leads.

I did - one way the light comes on and the fan goes off. Reversing them, the light stays off and the fan stays on.

Some LEDs have current limiting resistors built in. They are usually designed for 5V or 12V. Bare LEDs need some type of current limiting, either resistors or constant current supplies.

Yes, because there isn't enough electricity supplied to run both and the lights will suck up as much power as they need leaving the fan with inadequate power to draw from.

Ahhh, this may be the issue. Between your reply and GolfIscarLimaFoxtrot’s, I think this may be it. What would I search for in terms of LED’s with resistors built in?
