Kill the power to the socket and unscrew the threaded base. Pliers may work, I think there's a tool for this too. I've also seen a potato used but that requires the bulb to be broken off. I don't know if you'd get enough grip without the broken glass

I was going to just unplug the cables at the top of the unit, but since they won't come out, a full power cut is the move. Haha. Thank you for the safety advice!

I'm also going to wait until my friend is here juuuust in case.
