In order for the modem to work, it needs two thing:

  • To be able to communicate with your ISP.
  • Permission from your ISP to operate.

Fixing the cable will allow it to communicate, but unless you have an account with your ISP and they have that particular modem attached to your account, you won't be able to get internet.
