One works the brakes, one works the gas pedal, and one steers. You got a problem with that?

Couldn’t put it better myself! I grew up driving here but man, COVID really made driving awful. But it is beautiful and scenic, and almost no one knows how nice it is ;)

You should try Rhode Island- also 3 children in a trench coat but there's a rabid squirrel in there as well.

It was better before! It wasn’t great but it was New England drivers, I grew up with it and could manage. WAY worse after COVID! I stopped driving on highways after that, and get tail gating assholes on the backroads instead now. It’s so much worse

Ok we are far from the worst state for drivers but that was funny

I've sat here for about 5 minutes trying to think of a clever response denouncing your statement here. I'm not sure if its the Shine Nog or the fact that as a resident of CT since 2000, I can attest to the fact that you are right.

Edit tonsay: drunk. I'm drunk, and you are correct 🤣 except at 5 ft tall I'm merely TWO kids in a trench coat

I live in NY very close to CT border (Westchester/Putnam county to FFC) and you are absolutely right. Our roads are trash. You can tell the exact moment you cross the state line based on the road quality.

If you went to Bristol you saw just about the worst of it too. It’s the only place in the state where every person stops in the middle of the travel lane to turn so that no other cars can get through. Move out of the way! How did people in Bristol never get this memo?

What an idiotic thing to say. You only need two to reach the pedals and still see over the hood.

People started checking if their speedometer was all talk when those rivers of tarmac opened up on account of the lockdowns and self isolation. Now that traffic is back to normal they can’t force themselves to give it up.

PG-Glasshouse t1_j1p8e40 wrote

I think the issue here is that even when someone knows you have the right of way they’ll test you on it anyway because on the off chance you give in it’s convenient for them. People from out of state were never informed on how the game was played so they lose that contest every time which undoubtedly feels like shit.

Pro-tip, none of us have insurance that will cover a totaled BMW so despite them generally speaking being fucking assholes they have zero leverage at kickoff and they know it.

Whether or not that’s true, my anecdotal experience is that I’ve experienced the extremes on both ends in CT. I’ve been horrified and pleased with the drivers. The only state I’ve been actually impressed by the general level of driving skill and awareness of Washington State.

Ultimately I think each area/region/state can have some bad habits that are normal and expected by locals, while appalling/terrifying for visitors. Here are some of my experiences:

Utah drivers defend their spot in traffic like you just insulted they’re dying mother. You want to change lanes to get over on the next exit, you better wait for a HUGE gap, try to start changing lanes 6 miles earlier, or play a game of chicken.

Southern California drivers drive unsettling fast on small/neighborhood roads. Also, you better not be a second late on accelerating when the light turns green.

CT drivers, especially eastern side of the state, love to ride your ass no matter how fast you’re going. If it’s night, there’s a 3 out of 4 chance they have their brights on. Also, if you’re in Hartford, be ready to be cut off. It might not happen, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Washington drivers (specifically Puget Sound area) are considerate, patient people, but if it snows, all hell breaks loose. They’re oblivious to their lack of skill with snow driving.

CT drivers interpret “slower traffic keep right” to mean “Everyone else on the road is legally required to move out of my way, and making my use my brakes should be punishable by firing squad.”

Jynx2501 t1_j1q7eid wrote

Swear Covid made it worse. I miss driving when I was like 1 of 4 people on the road.

minandnip t1_j1q7tvm wrote

Can confirm that eastern CT drivers love to ride your tail with high beams on. If you’re not going at least 10 over on rural highways, be prepared to be passed in a non passing zone.

Im an eastern CT driver myself and I actively notice my bad habits and try the correct them but some people just see you as another obstacle. Lovely people over here though.

Depends on where you are in the state. Some places have worse drivers than others.

I'm from Jersey myself, we get a lot of shit cause our drivers speed like there's no tomorrow, but they're fairly decent overall. At least in South Jersey which is the real Jersey, not NYC-lite like North.

Can’t speak for the parking, but a recent study said CT was one of the best states for driving lol. Statistically 🤷🏻‍♀️ Parking is rough though. I think the design of a lot of parking lots is absolutely atrocious. Idk if that’s regional or just life…

Speaking of which, today on the Merritt I saw:

  • driving in the breakdown lane
  • cutting into traffic with no signal
  • driving with no lights on and they didn’t notice even though there were no streetlights

All out of state plates.
