Working overnight shift in north central, so far it’s been pretty quiet outside of maybe two gusts.

Seems like updated forecast has the highest wind now between 6-9am.

Also in Tolland county and also got woken up around the same time. It’s nonstop since. Pretty scary

Lost power at 4:54AM. Woke up from a big bang sound, which I assumed was the electricity cutting out.

It's really intense here in Hartford; this was an excellent reminder to get my phone and backup pack all charged up just in case.

Is the wind part of things over now? I’m abroad and stressed out about my house haha (South Fairfield county)

Lost power at 4:30 am here in northern Fairfield County.

Really hope we get it back before the temps drop.

18 to 20 mph winds, but sounds worse! I think the next few hours will be harsh. I shouldn't have binged all those natural disaster docs.

Lost power here, sometime in the last hour. Xmas gifts trapped in a garage I can’t get into due to electric opener. Christmas ham in danger of spoiling. And we’re supposed to host.

Got some power flickers here, but surprisingly my power has held. It’s still quite windy and I hear sirens. Northern Fairfield county.

7

hexidist t1_j1cwar7 wrote

No reason for sirens. Wind is strong, but it's coming straight at us. Storms are happening way further west. That being said, I wouldn't let any small dogs out for a bit. Some patio furniture might become your unwanted Christmas gift.

I'm glad I'm not the only one, I woke up slightly concerned. I hear the wind and trees cracking in the distance 😵

6

kingfarvito t1_j1cwng5 wrote

A bunch of us local guys told eversource we weren't working Christmas without incentive pay for the holiday and eversource told us if we weren't working Christmas we can't work tomorrow or Saturday either. So like 30-40% of the local guys won't even be starting to help until Monday. This one is going to take a while if it's bad

hexidist t1_j1cwpju wrote

Wind isn't a huge issue. It will probably kick some things around that knocks into power lines, causing some power outages.

If you are close to the shore, flooding is something to be concerned about.

−10

Potts01 t1_j1cwwvm wrote

Thanks - well it is an issue for me to lose power because my heat functions with Water so I could not shut it off before leaving. So if I’m out of power when freezing temperatures hit, my pipes will likely burst… and I am in Singapore haha

Can’t sleep at all. Scary as heck. The flag pole across the street is wobbling like crazy and the flag looks like it might’ve torn.

6am, Tolland. Woke up, no power. Wind is nonstop. I’m supposed to go to work in an hour but I don’t know if there’s power over there

8

hexidist t1_j1cxl0v wrote

We pay exorbitant amounts to Eversource. I know there are a lot of expected power outages throughout the state, so they are staffing a lot of people to try and handle it. Low Temps won't hit until later, but if it is an emergency, they might be able to provide guidance.

We are in a better situation than most of the country at the moment. Don't go outside and prepare for power outages as best you can. There is no risk of storms that can create highly destructive conditions. Hope you trimmed your trees, but at least you won't have to find your car 4 blocks over.

Today is trash day but because of the wind decided to put my recycling out this morning. When I took the cans to the curb, a random blue trash can was in my driveway. I pick it up and set it next to my other cans. 20 minutes later the blue can is gone without a trace. I’m starting think it was all a dream.

Downtown Stamford here. Crazy wind woke me up around 4:15 am. Pretty scary but I was getting wind like this quite often in north Texas, and it’s another reason why we left. I guess I’ve developed some degree of numbness to it at this point. We still have power as of 9:15 and things are significantly calmer. I hope the worst of the wind is over.

It’s a detached garage with no entry except the main door. There’s a lock that can be unlocked and pulled out with a cable on it that functions like the red handle. But it’s an apartment complex and maintenance controls the keys.

That said, Eversource has miraculously already restored us. There were about 1300 by me out due to a single branch in the lines so it was a quick fix and a good chunk of people back in service quickly.

I've always loved crazy weather, although never a fan of wind. Always a fan of thunderstorms and what not, but during that last hurricane we had a tree fell on my neighbors house and since then I've been a bit more terrified of strong winds (i hated wind enough before then anyway.)

I still admire the awesome power of nature. Nothing I can do to control it, whatever happens happens. Just real scary.
