My wife and I are considering moving there, probably to Farmington, and want to be somewhere accepting. I’m non-binary and she is trans, and as a queer couple we don’t want to be ostracized by our community or for our child to be ostracized for having queer parents.
We are in a super trans/homophobic area rn and are really trying to move somewhere better.
In every town there will always be that one asshole but it's CT, we aren't some bible-thumping shithole state so otherwise yeah, accepting.
Just look at how they voted in past elections.
More republican = more hatred of people like you.
I go there all the time. In reality, nobody cares nor anyone would bother to even notice.
The area is conservative leaning (which is most of Northwest Ct), but people forget that conservatives like to keep to themselves (mind their own business). It’s not like the south where southerners probe into other personalities. I would know, I lived in GA, NC, and VA all rural areas.
Personally, I see no issues concerning lgbt related things.
What do you mean by “the area is conservative leaning”? Farmington’s 2020 election results show Dems won every single race.
You will find Connecticut far more accepting in general than where you are from. There might be some minor issues from a couple bad apples but over all you should be safe. You should be fine. CT for the most part does not care, you might get some tisks tisks from somebody's bigoted granny but hell I get that for letting my daughter do cub scouts.
Now if your a bad caricature of I'm the only gay in the village you will get derision but thats for being flamboyant in peoples faces not who you love.

Really not trying to discourage you whatsoever, there are TONS of amazing places in CT that support this, but as a local I do not think of the Farmington Valley as the go to. There are so many amazing options in the direct surrounding towns/area that are better options IMO. Farmington has some old school snobbery, but like other commenters said, you're dealing with such few cases it's almost a non factor
It really is a non issue in most parts of the state.
Along the 84, 91 & 95 corridors, you will find it very welcoming. Start moving to the more rural areas it gets more “conservative”. West Hartford, next town over is very inclusive. Taxes are a little higher, but you also get more services than Farmington. Also rush hour & weekend traffic in Farmington is horrific. Edit: I would never live there because if it.
I personally wouldn't be afraid there, but representation is going to be lower. LGBT centers of CT are more like Middletown, New Haven, West End Hartford, West Hartford ect. Fairfield county is also mostly extremely liberal but there are holdouts
