If you lease it’s in your monthly bill.

Make sure you pay it. Or you can’t register new vehicles. Learned that the hard way lol.

It’s fucking bullshit. Just pay it and don’t ask any questions at all like the rest of us idiots.

Depends. 70% of assessed value x Town mil rate then divide by 1000. That will get you how much your bill will be. Typically due once per year in July.

Example: Assessed value of $20k x 32.5 (Random mil rate) / 1000 = $650.

Bill was introduced to eliminate car taxes. Hope it pass

When you get the bill, which is sometimes in July, you have 30 days to pay it so don't worry if it is at or near the due date. If it is over a couple hundred they split it in half so you pay half now then half January 1st.
After you get your first bill, and know what you will have to pay, I'd recommend having a savings for the next one so you aren't scrambling when you get the bill.

The car tax also allows us to have free access to state parks
Zootallurs t1_jee6l7b wrote
No, I think that’s part of the registration fee. Car taxes go to municipalities, not the state.

LOL reduce taxes, not in this state
Mystic_Walker t1_jeen9sw wrote
The kicker is the car, which most of us need, is taxed as personal property. But a boat, a luxury item unless you use it for business, isn’t taxable. How does that make sense?

On my last lease it was paid from my scheduled monthly payments and put the monthly payments into arrears

Just think of all the value you are getting from paying that tax.

Boats should absolutely be taxed like cars. Shoreline towns would make big bucks for sure.

Cost is value of car x mil rate, so there's a wide range. Yeah, they'll mail you the bill, due July 31 iirc, and most likely your town website will have a tax link as well where you can look up and pay your taxes. Born free, taxed ' til death.
