Hey everyone! I just got accepted into grad school, and also just signed the lease for my apartment. I’m really excited about moving up north. But I’m also a little anxious about making new friends and creating a meaningful social life. How do you guys make friends, are there any social clubs, or meet ups that are prominent in the area?

For a little perspective, I’m in my mid to late 20s, and I am a musician. I enjoy all things, anime, books, languages, as well as good spots to eat, and or shop. I also love backpacking, camping, and hiking, and all things travel.

Easiest way is to find local groups/outings/events for those interests you have. So stuff like open mic nights, jam sessions, various music events, etc might be a good option for you.

Welcome to CT 💕 It shouldn’t be too hard to make friends. I’ve been living here for 10 years now and I have made friends here. Good luck and enjoy CT! ☺️🙌

If you have any interest in board gaming, Dungeons and Dragons, TCGs, or tabletop miniature games, I’d definitely recommend checking out The Battle Standard in East Windsor, or Tabletop Gaming Center in Newington.

Great communities with scheduled days for different activities, and usually you can find people for various pickup games or running demos to give you a chance to learn new stuff!

I’d be happy to also recommend good places to eat but there are so many around the state, it would be an exhaustive list without knowing particular food interests of yours. There are a lot of good local breweries too!

If you like to have a beer (or even if you don't) there are plenty of open mic type places around (taking into account being a musician). Welcome and good luck!

If you're into the creative arts scene there is Real Art Ways on Arbor Street that has a Creative Cocktail night every 3rd Thursday of the month. They're fun and it is a neat venue that does a lot of stuff.

Same way you make friends in any state, I never understood this question.

Take up BJJ. You will get a great work out, learn how to defend yourself and meet a bunch of people that will become a second family.
