The speed cameras on 83 in Baltimore city have really helped cut down the drag racing on that section of Highway. I would love to see more of that around the area. 29 and 795 are good candidates for expanding that.

Yes, as much as I hate that I've gotten two of the speed camera tickets (this was when they were new and I wasn't aware of them, and was just keeping up with traffic) they honestly have cut down on the racing. I don't feel like I might die on that stretch of 83 anymore.

ITA with 29 and especially 795, the racing up and down is awful.

Over by the State Park/Landing Road area you can hear them at night on (I guess) 100. As I lay in bed listening to them, I wonder how there can be no cops around. Then I learned the cops don’t typically engage them because they would get into a high speed chase, thereby putting people at risk. I am a big proponent of privacy, but I am all for cameras if they help stop this dangerous crap.

There is a small house on my court that is rented and occupied by at least 12 people (all affiliated with a landscape company - logos on some trucks). They have enough cars to clog up the entire court, including a few that are definitely street racers (none that match your descriptions - Toyota/Scion things here). All of the street racers are slammed, straight-piped (or outfitted with fartcans), and riding on stretched tires. They do donuts around the grass circle in the court like they’re winding up and then blast down our 6-houses-long court at ridiculous speeds; we can hear them racing up and down Oakland Mills Rd.

I do not like these neighbors. I will admit to some schadenfreude when I saw copious amounts of white smoke billowing from one of the cars (hood and tailpipe!) while they were “tuning” it recently…

Had three cars pass me on 32 last night around 930, clearly racing, doing at least 110 given how fast they passed me. From your description, either they were the same ones and went to 29 next, or there are just a lot street racers in this area.

Yeah, I used to work overnight at the food lion right off exit 12, when it was open 27/7 and I’d hear people race all the time. Sometimes they’d stop in and our lot would be full of muscle cars. Cops didn’t seem to care.

I got stuck on 29 North last night because it was closed completely following that accident and everyone had to exit at St John’s Lane. Thanks for filling us in on what happened! I’m glad the victims are okay.

But honestly Maryland as a state needs to really crack down on aggressive driving on every major highway.

There is no traffic enforcement anywhere these days. It gives folks license to speed and ignore all traffic laws. Used to be a speed trap on 29 almost daily, north above the 100 interchange often, and south just below the rise in the road around 175. I never see it any more.

I never see any police on the roads anywhere. Since the pandemic it seems to have stopped.

I am sure they will carefully hide the identity of the one POS they caught. He will probably get a slap on the wrist (like the POS who did donuts on the bay bridge), instead of attempted murder. And I bet he gets his car back and it barely affect his license; if he has insurance it will go up ... but BFD.

Around that time we were at 40 and Bethany lane when 2 idiots decided they needed to drag race off the light going west on 40. Mustang beat the suv, but we were waiting for them to cause something stupid.

Speed cameras are a great idea. Cuts down on dangerous stuff like this and also brings in county money. Win win.

As long as its set up properly - where things like your car was stolen is taken in consideration and its not run like the crooks in easy pass run stuff. And it has a reasonable appeal process.
