Best place to donate?

I want to know my stuff actually gets to people who need it and not ebay resellers. I have a lot of stuff to get rid of.

I can also volunteer my time if anyone knows of organizations that actually help those who are financially struggling.

I don't mind driving. This can be anywhere in MD, VA, DC, or PA.

We also have buy nothing groups around columbia. Not specifically targeted to those who can not afford things, but they always go to those who will use the items in theory. They are on fb.

If you're here in Columbia, check with CAC of Howard County.

There's also a smaller group that started up around the time of the pandemic, Columbia Community Care, they have a page on Facebook.

Thanks for all these everyone. I will be going through their forms 990s. I want to make sure where I volunteer actually uses their money for good and not to overpay some CEO.

Bridges to housing stability is a great local org that provides subsidized housing to low income families. They're always looking for help fixing up their next place and sometimes take furniture donations https://bridges2hs.org/

Elkridge food pantry or any of the local food pantries are great places where you get to see your impact right away when you hand deliver food to people. Although that isn't a everyday thing they always could use help organizing or picking up from local super markets or churches.

If you have clothing, textiles, including stuffed animals, there are clothing drop bins at lots of schools. The schools get paid by the pound and use the funds for student programs. I know HCMS has one, and many other schools do too.
