Both from standalone ice cream/dessert focused places and laces for not dessert foods!
Please no frappes unless you can get them without the coffee.

Just in case you’re not aware, frappe is generally the New England term for what many call a milkshake
I’ve had good ones from JP licks locations, Boston Burger Company (they have some funky ones), and haven’t tried but rumored to be good is Veggie Galaxy. Report back if you find a good one!
Edit: *Veggie Galaxy, there’s also the Shake Shack in Harvard, of course!
Did you by chance miss a word and mean veggie crust or veggie Galaxy? Was thinking this might be a typo, or else it’s a new place I should try!
Oops, yes veggie Galaxy!
The Yard
Frappes: Milkshake in New England.
I think the ice cream makes the shake so Honeycomb and New City always hit.
Not in Cambridge but West Newton, I’m obsessed with Cabot’s. They are a restaurant AND and ice cream shop in one; they have a dedicated ice cream menu. Also one of the only places that does a true cream soda. The ambiance makes the shakes taste extra good.
My wife recommends “Lizzy’s Ice Cream” and I personally liked Gracie’s boozy shakes, if that’s your jam.
JP Licks my local fav too.
Haven't had their milkshake but their hard-packed and soft-serve are great. Place was closed for the winter last time I checked, wonder if they're open yet?
PS their fried stuff is pretty good too!
Cabot's is fantastic! Hope it remains that way when it changes hands soon. The family that runs it is retiring.
They rule, right?

OP needs to come back and apologize for what they’ve done here.
Oh I worked at JP Licks! ❤️ Ironically it was the skinniest I have ever been in my life.
Mainely Burgers
Any idea when they open for the season?
New City Microcreamery
That’s neat you worked there! In your professional opinion is it a top tier milkshake?
As i learned it (in New England) a frappe has ice cream, and a milk shake is milk with a bit of cream for richness and syrup.
I made some excellent frappes there. I mean my milkshakes did tend to bring many boys to the bar.
For a non ice cream spot Mamaleh’s in Kendall has fantastic milkshakes.
And if you want to hit a great ice cream spot Gracie’s next to the Kendall Square cinema is also fantastic.
I just drove by and checked. Sign in front door says "Closed. Reopening Spring 2023."
Just look where all the boys are in the yard. That's how you know the milkshake is better than yours. Watch out though. They have to charge if they teach you.
But they closed...
The one in central is definitely not closed. I mean they’re closed now cause it’s night time, but they’ll be open tomorrow.
Not Cambridge, but Ron's Ice Cream & Bowling in Hyde Park and Dedham have incredible frappes. Fantastic family owned business, I've been going my entire life.
My dad first went in the 80s and asked Ron for a milkshake. Ron looked at him, took a cup, shook up some milk, and handed it to him. It was then that my dad from central NY learned that New Englanders call "milkshakes" frappes.
I thought that was Newtonville.
Central Square location is permanently closed. Sorry.
Oh my goodness, I stand corrected! Just took my kids there a couple weeks ago. Disappointing.
Mr Bartley’s Fancy Frappes aka milkshakes in Harvard Sq. https://www.mrbartley.com/mrbartleys-menu.html
I was so confused why OP wanted to pay a restaurant for milk with chocolate syrup in it
Shocked to find this so low
Honeycomb!
Johnny Rockets makes the best shakes around on a consistent basis. Unfortunately they've been closing locations. The nearest is in Braintree.
Boston Burger Company, for sure! There is one in Davis Sq. Huge and overly complicated milkshakes with all kinds of toppings and what not
Further afield: Rancatore’s in Belmont or Lexington (fantastic ice cream and can get small or large). Kimball Farm in Westford or Carlisle. Protip: ask for “extra thick” frappe at Kimball’s.
Seconding honeycomb
I think Lizzys’ chocolate is one of the most solid there is, and it seems like it’d be perfect in a frappe (right texture, very chocolate-y, and not so sweet that it’d overpower the milk).
Veggie galaxy’s vegan shakes are amazing!

Just guessing. I've always wanted to try Celebrity Ice Cream on Mount Auburn St. in Watertown across from that old Sears building (now Tufts). Looks to me like they'd have a good milkshake.
