The air cooled dirtbikes last forever. The XR series is my favorite and i still ride one built in 1989.
Also own a vintage 1969 honda CT 70.. I agree they perfected the 4 stroke in terms of reliability. they're the Toyota Corolla of dirtbikes

Truth. Hondas are amazing machines.

80% of British agriculture is run on these things. In the hilly regions, its 100%.

Can confirm they are not BIFL in those conditions! I think the family record was about 30000 miles before becoming beyond repair. That's an estimate, as the speedos would break before then.
Talk about having a hard life mind...

30k on that dinky piston is incredible. Probably run ragged too, it’s hard not to as they don’t have gobs of power.
Love my Honda, hopefully it lasts half that long.

It's a Honda, nuff said!

This was the peak of their reliability. How do you like those mudlite tires?

Honda knows small engines, and early 2000s were of particular quality.

These are the future big reds. Nigh unstoppable, will very likely survive a nuclear winter. They'll fetch some serious money going forwards.

They seem to be pricey now. I’m Hoping to pick one up when prices get lower.
I wonder how they compare to sport quads which is all I have experience with.

There is a guy on TikTok making a charity/awareness ride across Canada in the winter right now and doing it on a vintage Big Red. Bulletproof is an understatement on these on work horses.

I’ve got the same one in green. I bought it in 06 and the damn thing is bulletproof.

I’ve got a Polaris sportsman 500 that is supposed to be reliable, but I cannot keep that sucker running for the life of me

Hahaha. I have an 06 sportsman 550, the thing is a beast but it requires non stop tinkering. It drives me nuts and I'm a skilled gearhead.

Off subject…. What’s the most reliable utv?

My 02 sportsman was pretty solid but the axle boots would always get torn and there were not enough grease fittings. After we added some grease fittings and put in boot guards there were no major repairs needed.

My personal favorite is my 01 Kawasaki Prairie. Rebuilt the carburetor but it still runs great and starts every time. Gets a little finicky trying to idle above 12,000 feet though.

I have the same only it's 2 wheel drive. Bought it new back in 2002 or so. Still runs like a top 👌

I had a 2007 foreman 500 with 28,000 trouble free miles did nothing but oil changes every six months, brakes and tires . Sold it a couple of years ago for $1,200. Last I herd it was still going
Now I have a 2013 500 I bought 3 years ago for $3000. it only has 2600 miles . I relocated , and don’t ride as much as I used to will get another 12-15 years out of it no problem.
Honda ATVs are an outstanding value especially if you live in a rural part of the county where they are allowed on secondary roads .
