I've even hiked in these (I know I know) up 14ers. Nothing else fit my foot right and I gave up on expensive trail runners.

At only 70 bucks for the neoprene ones, they are outstanding quality.

Love the foam ones, really nice feel to them. I might do the same and try leather when mine wear out.

The leather ones in my experience wore out after a couple of years. That was a few years ago… sexy as hell though!

I like the leather ones because they feel more premium and I like the way leather patinas as you wear it, but the foam ones were way more comfortable in my opinion.

I have had both and liked the foam more. The leather is mostly for looks / fancy occasions where you want to wear flip flops.

I love these. People scoff at how much money I’m paying for flip-flops but I have bad feet and they seriously are comfortable enough to trek around in for miles! I get a new pair every four years or so, but have yet to throw the old ones out because they still have life left in them!

The 3 things you want quality are what come between you and the earth. Shoes, mattress and tires. These may be quality, but they look well beyond their useful life.

Does the leather not stretch over time?

It does stretch and get more comfortable than they are when new, they break in to your feet nicely, but even after break-in I think the foam ones were more comfortable before and after they broke-in. I still have both pairs though so I use both for different things, I tend to not wear the leather ones when I’m doing anything wet. Fine for desert hikes though. You mentioned hiking so that’s a good point, at the end of a long day of walking or hiking in them, I tended to notice my feet being less comfortable and I would switch to the old foam ones once I got home for walking around the house.

It was the weirdest thing, the leather footbed eventually broke in this way that they became too slippery to wear without my feet sliding around in them. Very annoying and pretty dangerous if you were in uneven ground. I was in a very dry and arid climate most of the time, if that makes a difference. Best looking flip flops I ever had though and I would buy them again.

The most comfortable foam flip-flops. The weakness I found is the cloth strap between your toes often separates and breaks after 2 years. It's happened on every pair I've owned.,

I've got 3 pairs of Olukai's. Two foam and a one that has leather where the foam is on the others (like this). One pair got paint on them when redoing the baby room so those are my house/yard sandals. The other two are my going out sandals. I have faith I will have them for another 3 years at least.

Me wearing them in Hawaii was kind of a treat even if its not 100% authentic. 😁

Going on vacation? Well, I need plane shoes. Travel shoes. Water shoes. Bike shoes. Sightseeing shoes. Hiking shoes. Out for dinner shoes. I bring 1 pair of flip flops.

My olukais have been up mountains, down rivers, through cities. They are the only slippahs that have lasted more than about 3 months for me. And they finally failed after 3 years.

I just bought a replacement pair 6 months ago.

I legitimately forget it’s not normal to see flip flips on people year round outside of Southern California & a few other places lol

If you ever come across that situation again, you could most likely just get some leather cleaner (like saddle soap) and it would fix that up.

Over the last 10 years I bought 5 pairs. The first 2 lasted 2.5 years each. Literally put thousands of miles on them. But after wearing holes in the foam foot bed I switched to the leather foot bed. I've had them for 5 years. Wear them daily, year round. I abuse them too. Wear them ocean fishing, take them to the beach, rinse them in salt water. They're built like a tank. They realistically have another 5-10 years left in them. Which is more than I can say for any shoe or boot I've ever bought. And they're comfortable on top of all that.

I have 2 pairs of the one on the left. The strap on one finally got loose enough it wasn't safe to wear up stairs, so I got a new pair, but I probably could have repaired. It was probably about as old as yours, maybe a little older. Love the feel of that unique material they have so much.

Am I the only one who's had problems with Olukais? My leather pair only lasted a year or so. The foam is much better imo

Mine too! I live in the subtropics so wear them 11 months a year. I'm currently experimenting with different fixes for this. If I figure it out I will make a post!

I have plantar fasciitis, and Olukai ohanas are the best shoes I’ve ever found for my feet. I only get 3-4 summers out of them, though, before I notice my foot pain starting to increase again.

When I went to college I learned some people wear flip flops every single day for every occasion in every environment. It was bizarre. Not only is it so bad for your foot's biomechanics, but your feet are also in near-constant contact with all the grime of the streets.

To each their own I guess.
