Ex: wood, plexiglass, plastic, something else?

Its about a 25 minute walk or a 12 minute bus ride, and I want ideas. If it can keep the food warm, that'd be nice, but if it can't, my new work place might/probably has a microwave (I start in 2 weeks so I dont know the facilities yet).

I mainly want to pack:

  • rice (probably watery porridge version of it)

  • hard boiled eggs that I pre-boil

not sure what else, not used to making a full lunch for myself. I will work 8h shifts from 10 am - 6 pm and will have lunch 30m break around 3-4pm I suspect. I walk out of my house at 9:30 am and leave work at 6 pm sharp.

Thanks for suggestions! It doesn't have to be a "for life" item necessarily. If it lasts 1y before I need to replace it, I'm fine with that too.

Snapware-glass only. It won’t leak on you and you can reheat in the bowl.

Something like a Stanley food jar might suit; it would keep your food warm until lunch and they’re pretty indestructible/leakproof in your bag.

Glasslock is the only brand that I trust for this sort of work. There are other similar options but I haven't had as much success with other brands. Either the locking tabs break or the seals start failing. My Glasslocks though are probably 5ish years old now with zero issues. I have a set similar to these but I think you can individual containers or smaller sets.

Are these designed to keep the food warm for a few hours?

Or are these made so the food gets cold, but it is safe to microwave them?

They don't keep food warm for any significant amount of time. Keeping food lukewarm for hours at a time is probably not a good idea for most foods as the risk of food poisoning is significant. They are microwave, oven and dishwasher safe.
