My sister uses Japanese mail sacks that she received from box's sent from her Mil from Japan the sacks are double canvas with a reinforced mouth with a rope. I don't know if you can still get them. I plan on making my own when our basket breaks. They just gets hung out with the wet laundry when they carry wet laundry out to the closeline. And they hang up easily where needed to collect dirty laundry.

Ooh, those sound incredibly durable and pretty similar to the Steele Canvas laundry bag. I tried to make something similar years (and yearssss) ago out of lightweight duck canvas, but I think I was using the wrong needle on my sewing machine and it was a total disaster.

I think hand stitched with heavy cord would work better with canvas. You don't need small stitching for clothing bags.
