Still sharpens pencils beautifully. I put it as vintage because I've read that the successive X-Acto version isn't as good.

The clamp is vintage too, I found that on etsy a while ago

I did get the X-Acto one last year, because I was tired of the kids leaving their sharpeners lay around and/or losing them. And it's what I had easily found.

Figured that if it lasts through ⅒ of the punishment that the school ones get put through, then it should at least get my kids through school.

This pencil sharpener had me so confused, I thought they were made in Boston, Kansas but I couldn't find it on a map anywhere!

I remember those. It was already ancient in the 1980s.

just curious what the failure rate is on a modern pencil sharpener

From what I understand the modern version is just lower quality

Also the grinders inside do dull after a while, I was able to sort of sharpen them up a bit again with a kind of file as I wasn't able to find replacements. It seemed to work just fine and it sharpens pencils well

My grandma has one that auctions to a table with a little lever. Best pencil sharpener ever!

Have one of these built into my unfinished basement and it works like a charm 😅

A lot of them seem to be built into basements and garages. I got this one from the garage, previous owner left it.

I have an older one I took from my grandparent's house after it was sold, I didn't see why it needed to be given to somebody else
